Lake Jacksonville

The City of Jacksonville Maintains the Lake Jacksonville Recreational Area which is located about three miles from downtown Jacksonville and offers 1,325 acres of water. The lake is surrounded by homes and lovely East Texas scenery.

The Parks Department maintains ten screened shelters, seven camping sites with water and electricity and ten R.V. Pads with water and electricity. There are three boat ramps on the lake and two public swimming areas. The camping area also has restroom facilities with showers for the campers.

Geographical Specs

Lake Jacksonville is in the Neches River basin one-half mile southwest of Jacksonville in Cherokee County (centered at a point 31°55' N, 95°18' W).

The lake's capacity is normally 30,500 acre-feet, and its surface area at 422 feet above sea level is 1,320 acres. In emergencies the reservoir can be expanded to 46,500 acre-feet with a surface area of 1,760 acres. The lake has a drainage area of forty-one square miles. The soil around Lake Jacksonville is a sandy loam over red clay, and the area is wooded with mixed hardwood and pine trees.

The highways to Lake Jacksonville are west side of lake, follow 79W to FM747. East side of lake, take College Avenue (past Lon Morris College) to concession area (about 3 miles). For other southeast areas, follow S. Bolton to FM 347 and then continue on FM2138.

Water Conditions


Fishing Regulations

Most species are managed with statewide regulations. One exception is a minimum length limit of 18 inches for Largemouth Bass (also known as Black Bass). The daily bag limit for Largemouth and Spotted Bass (also known as Kentucky Bass) is five fish in any combination.

Triploid Grass Carp Permit is in effect on this lake. If a grass carp is caught, it must be immediately returned to the water unharmed. Bowfishing for grass carp is strictly prohibited.

Fishing Cover/Structure

Anglers need to find deep structure to catch a volume of fish. Largemouth Bass should be sought along the face of the dam and around patches of native vegetation in Cat Creek and Byrd Branch. The Lake Jacksonville Concession Area maintains serveral screened shelters, several camping sites with water and electricity, and ten R.V. pads with water and electricity. There are three boat ramps on the lake and two public swimming areas. The camping area also has restroom facilities with showers for the campers. These can be rented by phone (903)589-3510 or by using our online reservation tab located at the top of the screen. There are picnic tables in the public area, which is located by one of the swimming areas.

Lake Striker

SWIMMING, BEACH VOLLEYBALL AND WATERFRONT FUN!

The swimming area here is very clean and the sand between your toes will feel good! If you like outdoor games, you can join a game beach volleyball with other guests or bring your own team! We've also got horseshoes or kids can strike up a game of tether ball while adults hit the sandy court. We also have lights set up for night time games and more!

In our beachfront area we have several covered table areas to get you out of the sun and enjoy your stay. Also, BBQ pits are allowed in this area so bring yours and you can cook up your favorites and enjoy it to the fullest with your family and friends!

FISHING

Anglers, you can wet a line and catch largemouth bass, sand bass, catfish or crappie year-round here at Lake Striker. The black bass, channel cat and crappie fishing is very well known throughout the State of Texas and the Southwest for many decades. bluegill and redear sunfish are also present in high numbers and provide good fishing, especially for youth anglers. We have Rosco's Bait Shop which has everything you might need from bait to hooks and everything in between.

Jacksonville City Parks

Buckner Park

12.67 acres, located off of Newburn Street: swimming pool, covered pavilion, paved walking path, one lighted basketball court, two lighted tennis courts, sand volleyball court, and restrooms. Gazebo, picnic tables (some are covered), one charcoal grill located by the pavilion.

Hazel Tilton Park (City Park)

.57 acres, located downtown off Larissa Street: benches and war memorial.

Jacksonville Athletic Complex

35.22 acres, located off Byrd Road: four lighted baseball/softball fields, four unlit fields, several soccer fields, one of which is lighted. Restroom facilities at the baseball fields and soccer fields. An additional 40 acres is currently being developed by the soccer/baseball associations and the City. 1923 Byrd Rd. Lincoln Park

9.98 acres, located off of Martin Luther King Drive: covered pavilion, playground, lighted basketball court, volleyball court, lighted tennis court, and restrooms.

Love Street Park

.42 acres, located off Love Street: basketball court, playground, one covered pavilion with picnic table.

Nichols Green Park

PHASE I: Approximately 43 acres, located off of Beaumont Street: large park with two lighted, covered pavilions with picnic tables, concrete walking path (4,170 ft), playground area, two baseball diamonds, sand volleyball

Norman Pool

Located in Buckner Park. Host to a variety of activities some of which are City-sponsored. Swim lessons offered for a small fee. Senior Citizens Water Aerobics. City also sponsors water aerobics in the evening hours, as well as adult lap swim sessions. The pool is available for private parties for a fee. Open Tuesday-Sunday, opening June 2nd.
